Welcome

Welcome to the new Protestant Missions Project!

The project launched on July 7, 2023

Mission Statement

The Protestant Missions Project highlights the individuals involved in the movement, seeking to develop well-sourced profiles with good biographies and connections to the main tree.

Current Sticker

Add the sticker immediately after the Biography heading of the profile:

{{Religion|image=Protestant_Missions.png|text=was a [https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Protestant_Missions Protestant missionary].}}

Note that the sticker does not currently categorize the individual. Be sure to add the following category text immediately before the Biography heading in the profile:

[[Category:Protestant Missionaries]]

Future of the Project

The goal is that by December 2023, we can become a sub-project or project team of the Religion Project, if they are on board with that and there is adequate interest on our end as well.

Task List

Primary

  • Create new profiles for people involved in Protestant Missions.
  • Add sources to profiles.
  • Write and edit biographies.
  • Connect especially notable profiles to the main tree.
  • Categorize them according to the place they served, i.e. "Missionaries in India," "Missionaries in China", etc.
  • Work on individuals from the Christian Heroes Then and Now category.

Secondary

  • Coordinate with the Religion Project to develop additional categorization.

So glad to discover you all! Many missionaries in my large family tree. May future descendants be inspired by their stories!

Just ran across this preacher in my research? Would you categorize him as a missionary for the purposes of this project?

I served in the country of Belize as a missionary teacher at a small Christian high school for a year at the age of 19. I have had a deep interest in missions since the age of 12. I would love to assist on this project where ever I am needed.

Most stickers automatically categorize a profile, but this sticker does not. Each profile in the project must be manually categorized. I just edited the "Current Sticker" section of the page to add categorization info.

I'm not completely happy with the way the section now looks, but I think the additional information is important. Please feel free to improve it.

Should the location be removed from the data field on this page? How about the dates? Together, both make me wonder about its broad applicability, or whether it is supposed to be quite specific.

I have a couple of Protestant missionaries in my line. One did work within Canada coordinating abroad efforts and another went to India. Locations should be broad.

I am working on the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry project and within that project and with some extended family members, I have discovered a number of missionaries. I will be happy to associate both the profiles I have found and those I will discover in my work to this project.

I added the sticker and the category Protestant Missionaries to Reverend Eli Smith and his wives. Is this how you would like these individuals tagged?

My wife and I served Christ in Palestine from 1965 - 1977, and then in East Africa from 2000-2009. In East Africa I worked with my godly brother Raymond Carlson in evangelism and education.

My hope is that Missionaries can be recognized as making a great contribution to our world's healing.

My name is Stephanie Evans. My husband and I were missionaries with the Southern Baptist International Mission Board for 10 years and my parents were missionaries with the same organization for 30 years. I am interested in collaborating on this project. This would be my first collaboration on Wiki Tree. I don't have a specific plan at this moment, but would love to be a part. All of the primary tasks are ones to which I can contribute. Please let me know if there are any specific priorities and I will start there.
